Meet the Band
Folks who have Joined the Band--and the commitments they have made to live more responsibly with the earth and its people and to share their commitments with others. Brendan Faw, Richmond, VA; Brendan will start recycling more and more. He will work to share resources with his neighbors. He will also tell his community about the Band! Barbara Tulli, Ashland, VA; Barbara will review and change the style of light bulbs she uses in her home. She will also lower her home's water heating setting in order to conserve energy. In addition she will become more mindful of the clothing she purchases. She plans to get to know and understand her neighbors' daily struggles in order to live with them more fairly. She will help spread 'the word' to her community. Sandi Davis, Ruther Glen, VA; Sandi will work to consume less; less food and less stuff. She will work to be open minded with her neighbors. She will also give more time to her community and she commits to listening. Cynthia Sanders, Cabool, MO; Cynthia will work to increase her recycling, reducing, and reusing efforts. In addition she will work to preserve our natural resources and creation (plants, animals, birds, etc) Stephanie Sappington, Dexter, MO; Stephanie will collect recyclable trash when she walks. She will also consume less sugary foods and chocolate. She plans to share her commitments with her community by sharing the Band story. John Mentzer, Waynesboro, PA; John will recycle everything possible. John commits to using his electric lawn mower and trimmer in order to cut down on pollution. He will share his commitments with his community by reminding his Sunday school class to recycle, reuse, and reduce the amount of “stuff” they buy. Lois Mentzer, Waynesboro, PA; Lois will dry clothes outdoors instead of using her electric dryer when possible. She will also be mindful of turning off lights when they are not in use. She will share her commitments by teaching her Sunday school class to turn off lights and water when they are not in use. Tammy Knick, Rocky Mount, VA; Tammy will recycle whenever possible. She will share food from her garden with her neighbors. She will work to publicize global awareness in her community. Alyson Garst, Callaway, VA; Alyson will do her best to stay alert, share, learn, and practice environmentally friendly things. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by being a good listener and by following the Golden Rule. She will share her knowledge of the environment and God with people she meets. Claire Lynch, Richmond, VA; Claire will recycle plastic water bottles and aluminum. She will treat her friends and neighbors as she wants to be treated. She will share her commitments with her community by talking to her friends. Myra Bontrager, Middlebury, IN; Myra will recycle more and eat less meat. She will live more fairly with her global neighbors by giving money to people and projects in Africa . Myra will share her commitments by telling people about the bracelets. Tori Drubert, Etna Green, IN; Tori will live more responsibly with the earth be taking shorter showers, by recycling, by not cutting down trees, and by not eating as much. She will share her commitments with her community by sticking to her commitments. Sara White, Huntingdon, PA; Sara will compost and recycle even if she has to go out of her way to do so. She commits to buying second hand clothing. She will buy local food at the farmers market and she will buy fair trade products when possible. Sara will share her commitments with her community by introducing the New Community Project to her science teacher. She will also participate in environmental events and discussions. Lisa Lanzkron-Tamarazo, Farmington Hills, MI; Lisa will live more responsibly with the earth by buying locally grown produce. Heather Hall, Roaring Spring, PA; Heather will be mindful of her consumption of natural resources including water and energy. She will create a more friendly recycling environment in her home. She will work to understand how her actions and reactions effect those around her both positively and negatively. She will share her commitments by sharing with others what she has learned and by her positive actions and words. Rebecca Huttsell, Indianapolis, IN; Rebecca will begin recycling plastics, decrease her consumption of meat, and replace regular light bulbs in her home with compact florescent bulbs. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by increasing her contributions to charitable causes. She will share her commitments by sharing with her family and friends and by learning more on environmental topics. Melody Merida, Indianapolis, IN; Melody will reduce her consumption of water resources and will utilize rain water for her animals. She will steadily grow her financial contributions to assist local and global outreach ministries from 12% to 20% over the next two years. She will actively educate her congregation and those within her circle of influence about her experiences and about her commitment to do her part to create positive change. Christine Tenpas, Indianapolis, IN; Christine will buy and waste less. She will also eat her leftovers! She will live more fairly with her neighbors by sharing more with local food pantries. In addition she will start putting a dime in a jar each time she throws away something her neighbors in need might have benefited from. She will send the money to the New Community Project. She will share her commitments by talking about the changes she is making when people ask about her bracelet. Tony Keen, Elkhart, IN; Tony will try to conserve water resources. He will also work to reduce trash. He plans to live more fairly with his neighbors by helping people that are in need. He will share his commitments with his neighbors, friends, and church. Paige Forney, Lancaster, PA; Paige will work to consume less electricity. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by respecting them. She will share her commitments with her friends. Rachel Potts, Landisville, PA; Rachel will reduce her consumption of natural resources including water and electricity. She will also cut down on her traveling. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by respecting them. She will share her experiences and commitments with her community. Rebekah Wagoner, McPherson, KS; Rebekah will live more responsibly with the earth by picking up trash. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by taking them brownies. She will share her commitments with her community by playing her flute. Caleb Merritts, Martinsburg, PA; Caleb will work to give back some of what he takes from the earth. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by doing kind deeds. He will share his experiences and commitments with his community. Marie Gomba, Annapolis, MD; Marie will live more responsibly with the earth by recycling, composting, and car pooling. Connor Morefield, Mechanicsville, VA; Connor will recycle papers and bottles he no longer needs. He will also reduce the amount of products that he uses. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by not being selfish with his possessions and by acknowledging that he is one of the lucky few in the world. He will share his commitments with his community by telling his friends and family about the cause. Meg Lowman, Rocky Mount, VA; Meg will live more responsibly with the earth by recycling. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by putting them first. She will do her part. Alex Murphy, Schwenksville, PA; Alex will work to reduce her consumption of natural resources such as electricity and water. She will grow a garden when she can. She also commits to riding her bike instead of driving her car when she can. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by buying fairly traded products and by making more frequent contributions to the New Community Project. She will share her commitment by speaking at her church and at her college. She will be a constant witness to her family and friends. Emily Philpot, Boones Mill, PA; Emily will live more responsibly with her community by recycling, carpooling, and by consuming less. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by putting them first, helping them when she can, and by being kinder. She will work with her community to reduce pollution and to increase recycling. Sam Epps, Elizabethtown, PA; Sam will live more responsibly with the earth by using less water and by recycling. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by talking with them more. He will share his commitments with other people. Conor Maghan, Elizabethtown, PA; Conor commits to recycling and planting a garden in order to live more responsibly with the earth. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by helping them when they need it. He will encourage others to start gardens and to improve their health. Aidan Maghan, Elizabethtown, PA; Aidan will reduce his consumption of paper and recycle. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by helping them every chance he gets. He will share his commitments with his community by talking to people about the environment and our health. Paige Strayer, Elizabethtown, PA; Paige will live more responsibly with the earth by using less plastic bottles and by recycling. She will not take more than she needs for anything in order to live more fairly with her neighbors. She will inform everyone about her wristband and what it means to her by wearing it. Laura Shenk, Elizabethtown, PA; Laura will recycle, spend money more wisely, take shorter showers, and try to understand other peoples points of view. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by writing more letters to her sponsored child and by only taking what she needs from the earth. She will share the story behind her wristband with her community. Sharon Willoughby, Harrisburg, PA; Sharon will reduce her consumption of paper and plastic disposables much, much more. She will drive less and set her thermostat lower. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by deliberately paying attention to and thinking about the impact of her actions on the people around her. She will share her commitments with her community by volunteering with non-profits. Frank Rhodes, Elizabethtown, PA; Frank will drink more water from the tap in order to reduce his consumption of water bottles. He will eat locally grown organic food including some food from Harry's garden. He will walk when he can instead of driving his car. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by sharing his home, yard, vegetables, and conversation.
